In recent years, online dating has gone from mainstream to overwhelming. It seems like there's a new dating site or app every month, each one claiming to be bigger and better than the last. If you've been using online dating sites from the early days, you might be used to doing a simple online search for potential matches. But now, with the addition of things like GPS matching, compatibility algorithms, social networking, in-app texting and swipe features, online dating has become a whole new beast. And it's still evolving.
You would think that all these improvements would increase your chances of success. But the funny thing is, many of my recent male clients are still having a hard time getting quality dates on online dating sites. Maybe you get on your casevery few parties. Your message might not get retrieved very often or the actual data you can set it to go nowhere. So what can you do to improve your chances of achieving your dating goals this year? It depends on how you approach online dating and how much you keep up.
Below, I've listed five questions to ask if you're not having success with online dating and suggestions on how you can change things. Take time to think about each one and see what changes you can make.
How many online dating sites do you use?
Here's an exercise that can shed light on how you actually use online dating sites. Make a list of the last 5-10 women you dated. Next to each woman's name, write where you met her.
Did each (or most) of these women come from your Match.com account? If you rely solely on one online dating site to find all your dates, chances are you will fail. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Why?
When you use an online dating site, you are only limited to the women who use that site. Not only that, but once you start filtering matches, the number of people who meet your requirements is further reduced. In fact, compared to the total number of single women, the number you will see on a dating site,afterwith filters it will be quite low.A studyfound that only 1 in 562 people across the UK fit the requirements of the average person.
So with opportunities like this, you should be on at least several dating sites, not just one. I recommend you use at least five.
Are you using the right online dating site for you?
If you're not getting the results you want from online dating, you may have signed up for a site that isn't very good for your demographic. The strengths and weaknesses of a dating site depend on many things, including your:
- To alter
- Geographic position
- Dating goals (casual vs long term)
- Special interests (hobbies, culture, religion)
Here's a look at some popular dating sites and their strengths. Make sure what you are using is really the right one considering what you are looking for.
Fit
Match has a large user base, probably because it's one of the most recognizable names when it comes to dating sites. It might even be the most popular dating site in your state:Check this map to find out. you have to do this toopay to be there, you are likely to find more people interested in serious relationships.
Flammable
Flammableis the most popular dating app in several states. The swipe feature and lack of emphasis on profile information give Tinder a more casual feel. If you want to "quickly see what's out there" by looking at multiple profiles, you'll probably find it interesting.
This might sound like a “hookup app,” but keep in mind that it also has a huge user base, so it's worth checking out if you're looking for something serious. Outside of major metropolitan areas and in more rural areas, more relationship seekers are finding success with Tinder.
POF
POF (aka Plenty of Fish)it's a free dating site with lots of people on it. You will likely see all types of profiles and will have to do a lot of research before finding quality profiles. However, if you are looking for something casual, you can use this site to expand your dating pool. I've seen this site work occasionally for my clients in the Midweststudies showIt is also the #1 dating site in Utah and Maine. However, beware of fake profiles and scammers.
hummel
hummelIt seems to be more effective in larger cities and with younger audiences, say between 25 and 45 years old. The site puts women in control of messaging, which means you can't talk to women on Bumble unless they contact you first. . This type of setup would likely appeal to high-end women who are tired of sifting through their crowded inboxes and ready to be in the driver's seat. Not surprisingly, many of my clients tell me that women on Bumble are more attractive.
hinge
hingeit was almost consistently the best for my clients, but I would say it didn't attract a large enough audience for my 60+ clients. However, for everyone else, Hinge trumps almost every other app in terms of the number of responses and data it generates. If for some reason you can't, don't give up. Here are some things you can do.increase your likesbecause the investment is worth it.
Coffee meets bagels
Coffee meets bagelsmatches you with friends of friends on Facebook instead of using an algorithm. That said, while I loved it at first, I now find it hit and miss. I would say it works best in San Francisco. Users are generally polite (they claim96% of its users are bachelors). It has more women than men, most of whom are looking for relationships rather than dating.
eHarmony
eHarmonyuses an extensive compatibility questionnaire to find matches for you and promotes itself as the best site to find a spouse. Unfortunately, eHarmony has not had positive results for any of my clients for at least three years.
Zoosk, Silber-Singles
I've found that both sites work best for people over 60. In fact, Zoosk walks you through using all of its features, which can be a good thing if you're relatively new to online dating. Silver Singles specifically caters to people over 50 who are looking for long-term relationships.
Elite-Singles
Honestly, I don't know anyone who uses Elite Singles, but it tends to a more mature, professional crowd between the ages of 33 and 50. Upon joining you must do an extensive personality assessment and then they will send you 3-7 matches a day. Also, you cannot search profiles yourself, so you have to rely on your matches. This can be attractive if you lead a demanding lifestyle and don't have time to endlessly scroll through profiles. This site is a bit on theexpensive website.
Do you meet women in real life?
While dating sites can help expand your reach when it comes to meeting women, you should be spending just as much time getting to know them in person. Why? Because of course it takes some of the pressure off your online dating experiences. If you feel anxious or overzealous using dating sites, it shows. That's why I also recommendmegacitas(dating multiple women at once) as much as possible to spread that energy out and appear more confident.
Of course, you'll also expand your social circle, which will become another source of potential dates. This is especially true for millennials, who typically find each other through friends. according to acurrent search, 39% of couples aged 18-34 met through mutual friends and 22% met in a social setting.
So look at your list of women you've dated in the past. How many of them have you met on dating sites? Well, here's a reality check: Out of the total number of women you date, you should date 33% or more of them.real life. Yep, that means meeting women at cafes, farmers markets, training classes, through friends, dating, volunteering, etc. Any activity or place you already enjoy is likely to attract women who feel the same way. And if you are single, you can find your partner this way.
Is your online dating profile up to date?
They say the definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. When it comes to online dating, you can expect to get better results one day, even if you're using the same profile as when you started. So you ask yourself, "Is online dating still working?" And you come to this article.
If you're not getting the best results from online dating right now, it might be time to update your profile pictures or text. Here are some quick tips.
- Update all old photos— It's easy to think that you look "basically the same" as you did a few years ago, but that's not always true. If some of your photos were taken more than three years ago, people are likely to know, especially if you have recent photos in your profile to compare them to. Delete photos that are at least three years old to keep your photos consistent. You will appear more honest.

In other words, if you're realistic about online dating, then you know it's just ONE tool for finding women. Do not abuse. After all, online dating sites are incredibly new compared to the entire history of our planet. Looks like they'll last, but you never know. Every time I hear about couples meeting on Hinge, I also hear about couples meeting in the real world.
Does Online Dating for Men Work: Summary
In my experience, the answer is yes, online dating sites still work for men. However, they only make up 10-20% of the equation when looking for a girlfriend, long term partner or wife.
